Young medical oncologists, who may often find themselves faced
by major complications caused by cancer or by cancer treatment,
will welcome this handbook as a highly useful tool to develop their
knowledge and skills in the area. Initiated by the European Society for Medical Oncology's (ESMO)
Young Medical Oncologists Working Group, this succinct text has
been written by a distinguished team of young medical oncologists
and senior figures in the field, and is designed to provide
oncologists with a secure practical grounding in the correct
courses of action to follow in an emergency. The key topics covered include: * cardiovascular complications * neurological complications * renal and urologic complications * metabolic complications * respiratory complications * gastro-intestinal complications * hematologic complications * cancer pain.
This book presents artificial intelligence applications that may help in detecting disease, defining tissue characterization (benign vs malignant), staging and correlation with molecular biomarkers. Originally positioned as a means for noninvasive molecular phenotyping and quantification in the 1970s, PET's technological improvements in the 2000s generated renewed interest in quantification, which has grown over the last five years. This progress is parallel with the development of Artificial intelligence (AI) systems for Oncology which aim at providing the best possible treatment to patients suffering from lung, breast, brain, prostate, liver and other types of cancer. The chapters provide an overview of the use of AI in PET/CT imaging for various types of cancer, and it will be an invaluable tool especially for nuclear medicine physicians and oncologists.
This is the second edition of a well-received book reflecting the state of the art in oncologic imaging research and promoting mutual understanding and collaboration between radiologists and clinical oncologists. It presents all currently available imaging modalities and covers a broad spectrum of oncologic diseases for most organ systems. Today, oncologic imaging faces the challenge of improving and refining concepts for precise tumor delineation and biologic/functional tumor characterization, as well as for purposes of creating individual treatment plans. The concept of radiomics has further advanced the conversion of images into mineable data and subsequent analysis of said data for decision-making support. Since the release of the book's first edition, radiomics has been introduced in oncology studies and can be performed with tomographic images from CT, MRI and PET/CT studies. The combination of radiomic data with genomic features is known as radiogenomics, and can potentially offer additional decision-making support. This book will be of interest to clinical oncologists with regard to the diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up on various tumors affecting the CNS, chest, abdomen, urogenital and musculoskeletal systems.
